This privacy policy explains how Theory Test Ready ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
Information Stored on Your Device
The following data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers:
- Learning Progress: Completed lessons, quiz scores, section progress, and mastery tracking
- Mock Test History: Your most recent mock test results (up to 50 tests)
- Hazard Perception Scores: Your hazard clip attempts and best scores (up to 100 attempts)
- Streaks and Activity: Daily activity, current streak, and longest streak
- Preferences: Quiz settings, notification preferences, and test date
Analytics Data
If you have not opted out, we collect anonymised usage data to understand how the app is used and to improve the experience. This includes:
- Lesson and quiz completion events
- Question performance (correct/incorrect, time spent)
- Mock test results and timing
- Hazard perception scores
- App engagement metrics (sessions, streaks achieved)
- Feature usage patterns
This data is anonymised and cannot identify you personally. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or location.
Crash Reports
If the app crashes, technical information about the crash is sent automatically to help us fix issues. This includes device type, operating system version, and app version, but no personal information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the theory test preparation service
- Save your progress locally so you can continue where you left off
- Understand which features are most useful and where users struggle
- Fix crashes and technical issues
- Improve the app based on usage patterns
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
PostHog (Analytics)
We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog processes data on EU servers in compliance with GDPR. You can opt out of analytics in the app's Settings. PostHog Privacy Policy
Firebase (Content Delivery and Crash Reporting)
We use Google Firebase to deliver question content and learning materials to the app, and to receive crash reports. Firebase Privacy Policy
Superwall (Subscription Management)
We use Superwall to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions. Superwall receives limited information about your progress (lessons completed, mock tests taken) to personalise offers. Superwall Privacy Policy
Apple App Store
Purchases are processed through the Apple App Store. Apple's privacy policy applies to any information they collect. Apple Privacy Policy
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
We share anonymised, aggregated data with our service providers (PostHog, Firebase, Superwall) solely to operate and improve the app. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your learning progress is stored locally on your device. If you delete the app, this data is permanently removed.
Analytics data is processed by PostHog on EU servers. Crash reports are processed by Firebase (Google) servers.
We implement appropriate technical measures to protect any data we collect, but no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
6. Your Privacy Controls
You have control over your data:
- Opt out of analytics: Go to Settings and disable "Share Analytics" to stop all analytics tracking
- Reset your data: Use "Reset All Progress" in Settings to delete all locally stored data
- Manage notifications: Control which notifications you receive in Settings
7. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
Under UK data protection law, you have rights including:
- Right of access: You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification: You can request that we correct any inaccurate personal data
- Right to erasure: You can request that we delete your personal data
- Right to object: You can object to processing of your personal data
- Right to data portability: You can request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format

8. Children's Privacy
Our app is designed for learner drivers preparing for the UK driving theory test. In the UK, learner drivers must be at least 17 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17.
9. Data Retention
- Local data: Stored on your device until you delete the app or reset your progress
- Analytics data: Retained by PostHog according to their retention policy
- Crash reports: Retained by Firebase for 90 days
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy in the app or on our website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
